I’ve been searching the web for a few weeks to find a true aftermarket replacement for the Canon ACK-E6. I’ve ordered two adapters and returned them. Both of the vendors suggested that the product was as good or better than the OEM product. They were misleading the consumer as the products would only work in the body and not in both the body and the battery grip as the Canon ACK-E6 does.

This vendor’s product is as misleading as the others. It will work in the body alone but if you have a battery grip, it “WILL NOT WORK IN THE GRIP” unless you modify it. The original Canon ACK-E6 “will” work in either the body or the grip because of the way the cord exits the blank battery component. If you are willing to modify the battery part of the unit you can make it work (which I have done but have now voided any potential warranty) but if you are uncomfortable altering things like this stay away from this product if you want to use it with a battery grip. The cord exits from the flat surface of the battery so it can’t be inserted into the battery grip.

Otherwise, the product is sufficient given it’s price. It’s not nearly as robust as the Canon product and has smaller gauge wire but again, for the price that’s expected.

There was a review on Amazon’s site saying that this product “WAS” compatible with the battery grip and is why I ordered it. I was burned. I think the review was a plant as it was false.

Bottom line, the product works, is not a true “Replacement” and will only work in the battery grip if you are willing to risk modifying the battery component.

My 7D is able to power up with this AC unit. However, the camera cannot record any picture and it freezes into an error mode every time I switch to video mode.

Um, I used this on my 5D Mark II, it wouldn’t turn on, tried switching to another power outlet etc,. then it eventually worked for a minute, said unsupported battery etc,. I said ok use it, then the screen on the 5DMKII turned gray and fuzzy. Now I switched to my normal batteries / battery pack with CANON official products, and no matter what, the screen is unreadable, gray and fuzzy, and nothing works. I think this just broke my $2000 camera and I am offically screwed.
